Macintosh eScale DiagnosticsGray box in place of eMonitor |
One other cause of the gray screen is running Mac OS X 10.3.9 without the most recent Java update installed. Mac OS X 10.3.9 introduced a bug in it's Java implementation which sometimes affects the eScale software. If you are running Mac OS X 10.3.9, experience the gray screen in place of the eScale software, and did click on the Yes button when asked to trust the software, make sure you have the Java Update for Mac OS X 10.3.9 installed. Run Software Update from the Apple menu and see if it lists the Java Update for Mac OS X 10.3.9 as available for install, and install it if available. If you do not see it available in Software Update and continue to have the problem while running Mac OS X 10.3.9, download the software update from Apple's website and run the installer by double-clicking on the installer icon and following the instructions in the installer windows. If you have previously installed the Java Update for Mac OS X 10.3.9 and your computer was "re-imaged" by your I.T. department, it may not have the update installed anymore.
