Dr. Robert Pretlow

Dr. Robert Pretlow graduated with honors from Princeton University.  He received his MD from the University of Virginia Medical School, where he also did his internship and residency in pediatrics. He is board certified in pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.  He has a Master of Science in electrical engineering from Old Dominion University.

Dr. Pretlow has published 16 articles, has been awarded 5 U.S. patents, and has presented 43 abstracts, keynotes, plenaries, panels, and tutorials at national and international conferences. He is author of the book, Overweight: What Kids Say: What's Really Causing the Childhood Obesity Epidemic.  His article, "Addiction to Highly Pleasurable Food as a Cause of the Childhood Obesity Epidemic", was published in the peer- reviewed journal, Eating Disorders,19:4, 295-307 (2011).

Dr. Pretlow was an invited speaker at the European Congress on Obesity, May 10, 2012, where he spoke on how social networking and a smartphone app impact on childhood obesity. ABC News did a story about this app.

He is founder and director of Weigh2Rock.com, an online weight loss system for teens and preteens, used by clinics, schools, private practitioners, hospitals, community centers, and health clubs, worldwide.  He devotes full time to writing and lecturing on what's really behind the childhood obesity epidemic and implementing the solution. Recently he has developed a childhood obesity intervention based on the problem food (addiction) model and implemented as a smartphone app W8Loss2Go.

Dr. Pretlow has two children, a boy and a girl.
