Is the Bluetooth power turned on?

Yes  No

If you have the Bluetooth menu displayed in the menubar you may verify that your computer's Bluetooth power is turned on by looking for the "Bluetooth: On" menu item in the Bluetooth menu. If it instead shows "Bluetooth: Off" then your Bluetooth power is turned off.

If you have your Bluetooth preferences set to not display the Bluetooth menu in the menubar you can verify that your computer's Bluetooth power is turned on by clicking on the Bluetooth pane of System Preferences.
