Does your computer have built-in Bluetooth or a USB Bluetooth dongle plugged in?

Yes  No

If you can see the Bluetooth icon in the menubar then you either have built-in Bluetooth or have a USB Bluetooth dongle installed.

If you do not see the bluetooth icon you may still have Bluetooth installed, but have your Bluetooth preferences set to not show Bluetooth in the menubar. To check if you have Bluetooth available on your computer, open System Preferences and look for the Bluetooth icon.

If you can find the Bluetooth icon in System Preferences, then your computer has Bluetooth hardware installed.
